Terminal Lucidity

S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

Feeling nostalgic, I spent my commute singing along to this Incubus album from 1997. I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but I can remember the lyrics to almost every song. I pulled up to my corporate gulag with a shit-eating grin on my face. This album is pure fucking brilliance and Brandon Boyd’s voice is nothing short of magic.

The first half is quintessential nu-metal. The heavy guitar with syncopated rhythms and the almost out of place turntables. But the second half transitions into something with an almost city-pop vibe. Think funk influences and jazz fusion.

Memories of a scratched CD in my new Discman, the odor of dirt weed clinging to my baggie hoodie, carbon paper detention slips crumpled in my pocket. I was a kid, lost in the music.

Deep inside, ‘cause I’m so stoned I can’t see straight.
